The concept
Situated high in the mountains of south-western Poland, Szklarska Poręba is a growing resort that is popular with guests looking for a relaxing break all year round, ideal for hiking or cycling in summer and skiing in winter. Bergo Resort and Spa offers guests the opportunity to escape the pressures of the city and take comfort in the natural environment, drawing its inspiration from the strength of the spectacular scenery.
Agnieszka Dąbrowska, CEO at PI Hotel Management Group told us: “When we extended the hotel, we connected the original historic building to a new modern complex with a glass link, keeping the two parts separate yet fully integrated. Internally, we wanted to design multifunctional and family friendly spaces with a cohesive style that reflects both the area’s cultural history and the natural wonder of the mountains.”

The design
Each of the hotel’s 140 rooms and suites has a contemporary pared back style with a warm neutral colour palette and energetic accents while natural materials visually link the interior to the wilderness outside.
Agnieszka explained: “The idea for the interior design was based very much on the local mountain scenery, but also on the glassworks located nearby. The building is full of paintings and glass walls in a wide variety of colours, inspired by crystals, amber and sunshine.”
“We set the bar very high in the selection of furnishings and materials. We don't limit ourselves to aesthetics alone but also take into account practical aspects such as durability, cleanliness, ergonomics, speed of installation and acoustics.
“For flooring, we chose to install Rose Washed Oak from the Rubens range in all the guest rooms and suites as it offered an authentic worn lime-washed look, interesting surface textures and pattern variation. We looked at many flooring suppliers but Designflooring was the only one to meet all our expectations.”
The results
Agnieszka concluded: “The entirety of the building, its interior and exterior design together with its history, have resulted in a beautiful resort that blends in seamlessly with its mountain setting. After spending time within the local landscape, soaking up the beauty of this region, guests can complete their day relaxing in the restorative balance and tranquillity of their suite or public areas, or take a treatment in the holistic spa and wellness centre.
“The interior design of Bergo Resort and Spa truly connects guests to the healing powers of nature and offers the perfect opportunity to be in the here and now, unhurriedly. The flooring very much contributes to this rejuvenative ambiance. We’re very proud of the results.”
