The future of hospitality in Europe

Posted on the 01/03/2024 by Designflooring

The hospitality industry is a vibrant sector rooted in the European way of life. Still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing economic challenges, the industry is infused with passion, innovation and a personal touch.

In today's competitive world, the success of hospitality is no longer limited to comfortable accommodation. With support from HOTREC and the EU Green Deal, the sector is positioned to evolve into a more sustainable and resilient industry, offering exceptional experiences that will keep guests returning.

A key element that determines guest satisfaction and a property's reputation is carefully selected design and interior furnishings. We spoke to Agnieszka Dąbrowska, CEO at PI Hotel Management Group, about the current challenges for the hospitality sector, what factors should be considered when designing a successful hotel and how this influenced their latest development, the Bergo Resort and Spa at Szklarska Poręba, Poland.

Agnieszka explained: “Situated high in the mountains of south-western Poland, Szklarska Poręba is a growing resort that is popular with guests looking to hike and cycle in summer or to ski in winter. To be successful it is important that visitors would be attracted here all year round. The Bergo Resort and Spa does this by offering a relaxing sanctuary that’s inspired by the strength of the spectacular natural landscape.

“When we designed this facility we wanted to ensure that it was multifunctional and family friendly so that it would appeal to the widest possible audience, from business conferences to couples, groups of friends and family holidays. This versatility is reflected in the larger size of the rooms, adapted for families with children, and its additional spa and leisure facilities such as an outdoor jacuzzi and children’s playground.

“When the hotel was extended, we connected the original historic building to a new modern complex with a glass link, keeping the two parts separate yet fully integrated. The idea for the interior design was based very much on the local mountain scenery but also on the glassworks located nearby.

“The building is full of paintings and coloured glass walls, inspired by crystals, amber and sunshine. A contemporary paired back style has been created with a warm neutral colour palette and energetic accents while natural materials visually link the interior to the wilderness outside.

“We set the bar very high in the selection of furnishings and materials. We don't limit ourselves to aesthetics alone but also take into account practical aspects such as durability, cleanliness, ergonomics, speed of installation and acoustics.

“For flooring, we chose to install Rose Washed Oak from the Rubens range in all the guest rooms and suites as it offered an authentic worn lime-washed look, interesting surface textures and pattern variation.

“The interior design of Bergo Resort and Spa truly connects guests to the healing powers of nature and offers the perfect opportunity to be in the here and now, unhurriedly. The flooring very much contributes to this rejuvenative ambiance. We are very proud of the results.”
